We have officially taken the lock and key off of what we've been coding since the Fall. There is a lot more of the application to come - namely the
Sports Card Marketplace which we are aiming to have launched within the next three months. We've got most of it coded already but need to work out some of the business issues as well as confirm that the
Sports Card Checklists, which is the driving force of the application, is working properly.
You do not need to be registered on the website in order to view the
Sports Card Checklists or
Players information. You do however need to be registered and have made a
minimum of 25 posts to be able to
add Sports Card Sets and add Sports Cards for those
Sports Card Checklists.
Membership with sports-cards.ca is free and we are striving to build a community which cannot be done without our members. For every post within the forums and for every card set, card to a checklist and player that you add to the SCC database, you can add 10 sports cards to your
My Collection.
An example:
200 posts x 10 = 2,000 tokens
25 card sets added x 10 = 250 tokens
50 players added x 10 = 500 tokens
250 cards added x 10 = 2,500 tokens
Total tokens: 5,250 tokens
Which translates to being able to add 5,250 sports cards to My Collection. Every card added to My Collection is considered to use 1 (one) token regardless of the quantity you have in your collection. Once the Marketplace is opened up, you can use these tokens there but we don't have any details to report at this point.
Not sure if people are familiar with the term "garbage in, garbage out" which essentially means that if "garbage" is entered into these checklists, they're going to end up being useless. We are testing out a voting system right now to test the validity of what users have entered. At this point, feel free to give a thumbs up or thumbs down if the wrong information is there. Behind the scenes, when you add an item to My Collection, you are giving it a thumbs up as being valid and the vote is noted as having been added to a collection - as opposed to you gave it a thumbs up. If you are entering in garbage to try and up your tokens, you will be docked double the amount off of your account and possibly suspended or banned from using the website.
We are hoping we can get the word out that this is here and start getting members contributing to the community again as well as new members registering. Once the momentum picks up and we're feeling comfortable things are working correctly, we'll be launching some contests.
Cheers!
