I'm new to the whole online wheeling/dealing that goes on for collectors like myself. I've always gone to sports cards shows or sports cards stores to buy/sell items for my collection.

Do you find you get ripped off or are somewhat successful in posting on a website online to finish off sets or find those cards you can't find at your local sports cards store/show?

hrm, i'm curious how to go about doing this myself. i have a ton of hockey cards i want to get rid of. it's part of the reason i started selling on ebay, wrote myself a shopping cart and put up this website. i'm a web geek/programmer trying to build up my portfolio. and at the same time, get me back into some hobbies i love to do and get me off the computer! i need to spend more time looking at my cards and less time programming though ;)

I'm also curious as to the trust factor when dealing through a forum?

I still haven't started trading online yet. Mostly because I am still trying to finish entering my collection into My Collection on here to create the For Sale, For Trade and Wanted lists. But I am hoping that I will soon start doing some trading because I've told myself I can't buy anymore hockey cards until I get rid of some of the ones I have now.

I think you have to be smart about it. We have a tradeback system on here which is similar to that of eBays feedback systems. If you use PayPal and someone rips you off, you can get your money back. If you are sending cards worth a lot of money, I would send them with tracking so you have proof you send them if they do try to rip you off. Keep all your receipts when mailing items so you have proof of it. I don't know how easy it is to get money back thru PayPal if you ship without tracking. Thankfully, I have only had one package not show up that was sent via eBay but I waited too long to file a dispute. The two PayPal disputes I filed, I got my money back.

I think if you see that a member has good feedback and lot of posts on a forum, you can trust them but I have seen on another forum that users who do have good feedback and lots of posts get banned. When I see stuff like this, I try to remember that life happens off of the forum so unless you have a close friend or loved one that knows you offline, how is someone on a forum to know you passed away or have been sick in hospital and that's why the cards haven't shown up.
