welcome to the site! and to the hobby of collecting sports cards!

if you have any questions about collecting, feel free to ask.

do you collect any particular team, sport or players yet? how is your collection coming along?

i myself have been collecting hockey cards on/off since the late 70's. sure wish my mom hadn't thrown out my hockey cards from the 70's/80's when I was at school one day ;)

Hi gotta fish i am also from london ...small world. I am familiar with that store you mentioned. I just joined the site and am hoping to get to know the ins and outs of how to place my collection in other peoples hands!! Looks like a nice site so far. I collect hockey cards mostly. There are some good collectibles shows around London as well you should visit for your card collecting.

If you find sports card stores in Canada, let me know so I can add them to the Sports Cards Shops Database on the site. I will also be adding a database for the online stores and other websites/blogs.

I too am in London.

Fresher Sports Cards near Southdale and Wellington.
Beyond The Pond near Fanshawe PArk and Hyde Park.

Also check out Gibraltar Flea Market as their are three sellers there.

My advice to you as a collector. SET LIMITS.
Don't try to collect everything. Find an area you like - a team or
a player and start there. Decide how much you have to spend and
stick to that amount.

Don't buy boxes of cards. They usually will not teturn anywhere near
the value that you "invest" in them.

I prefer Rookie cards - true rookie cards. Some cards may say rookie on
the card but are actually inserts. I like goalie rookies. There tend
to be fewer goalies in the league and the good ones tend to have good
collectibility. Another bonus is that the card is still "the" rookie even
if the player changes teams. Many collectors collect one team and when
a player leaves - they are no longer interested. When a new player
arrives, they don't want cards with his former uniform. But, if they want
his rookie - they have no choice. They need to buy it no matter what the
uniform.

I have been a collector for 20 years. It is fun. But it can be a money
pit if you get ADDICTED.

Great tips! Thanks for those!

I have mostly been a box breaker - especially since the 2005/2006 season. I got hooked after pulling 3 Sidney Crosby RC's and 2 Alexander Ovechkin rookies (most out of blaster boxes).

But the past 3 seasons, I haven't bought nearly as many boxes of cards because my income has dropped. I have been going more for "great steals" on ebay, increasing my patch collection.
